Cathy Lieux Rogers
Artist
Cathy Rogers is a Louisiana artist who frequents the New Orleans French Quarter, where she draws on her experiences in the unique city to influence her paintings. She loves the French Quarters colorful historic architecture, the diverse mix of people, street cars, jazz and soul music, delicious Cajun food, rich culture and traditions. She also has a love for the gulf coast where she spends her time.. She has a collection of gulf coast paintings that will be available in June 2021.
Cathy's style of painting is eclectic. She works with acrylic paints adding a texturing process where she uses a palette knife and special brushes to apply the paint and then scraping it off just enough to reveal the raw unrefined results. It is an intuitive process. Her minimalistic approach using blacks, whites, gold and soft grey tones, with clean lines, evokes simplicity, meant to instill a basic sense of calm. She uses recycled materials in her mixed media paintings, such as tea bags, vintage books with aged yellowed paper from old French books with beautiful text, hand written love letters, vintage and antique photos, symbolic numbers, and mark making, just to name a few.. Most materials are in a subdued, neutral color palette that feels the most organic to her.
In contrast, on occasion, her art promotes her love of color, that creates passion and energy in her art pieces . Cathy states, "Not limiting myself to one particular style is liberating, allowing me to create freely because thats what I feel art is truly about, not being limited, but going wherever your creativity takes you."
Cathys art training includes simple art instruction from a friend who was an amazingly talented artist, in his small antique cypress studio, surrounded by a lovely courtyard, where they spent many hours enjoying painting and laughing....
